Startup Weekend builds community by recruiting highly motivated developers, designers and entrepreneurs to collaborate on new projects and see how far you can take them over a 54-hour period.
Not sure if Startup Weekend is right for you? Here’s some pro tips from the Reddit community.
Oh, and this time its not just us in Austin.  We’ll be joining 20,000+ entrepreneurs, from 200+ cities in 100+ countries across the world in the largest Global Startup Battle ever!
While you may not create a startup that you’re going to work on for the next three years, we’re willing to bet that you’ll meet at least one person that you want to work with in the future.

Jason Seats

Managing Director at Techstars   |  

Prior to joining TechStars, Jason was a founder of Slicehost, an early cloud computing hosting company. In 2008 Slicehost was acquired by Rackspace and became the core for the initial Cloud Servers product. Jason continued on at Rackspace until 2010 as VP of software development for Rackspace Cloud, managing the cloud engineering teams.

Kirsten Knipp

Kirsten is Vice President of Product Marketing and Brand at Bigcommerce. She has extensive experience in product management and marketing for leading software and telecommunications companies such as HubSpot, SolarWinds and Vignette


Joshua Baer

Austinpreneur   |  

Joshua Baer helps people quit their jobs and become entrepreneurs. In 2008 he founded Capital Factory, the largest startup incubator and co-working space in Austin, Texas. Josh founded his first startup in 1996 in his college dormitory at CMU and now teaches a class at the University of Texas for student entrepreneurs. Josh is the Chief Innovation Officer of Return Path and is the most active email investor in the world.

Dave Rupert

Lead Developer at Paravel   |  

Dave is the lead developer at Paravel, a responsive design agency here in Austin. He's also the co-host of the Shoptalk podcast as well as Austin's very own ATX Web Show. He has a profound love for breakfast tacos and his newborn, Otis.

Jon Kolko

Founder of Austin Center For Design   |  

Jon Kolko is Vice President of Product, Innovation, and Design at MyEdu, and the Founder and Director of Austin Center for Design. His work focuses on bringing the power of design to social enterprises, with an emphasis on entrepreneurship and large-scale industry disruption. He has worked extensively with both startups and Fortune 500 clients, and he's most interested in humanizing educational technology.

Kevin Koym

CEO of Tech Ranch   |  

Prior to founding Tech Ranch and various executive roles, Kevin was a software engineer for NeXT Computer (now part of Apple) and PSW Technologies.

Through honing his skills in startup companies, Kevin leads teams to do more with less and to innovate to breakthrough performance. At a previous startup that Kevin founded, he led Dell to enter into eCommerce (Dell sold more than $1 Billion computers on software that Kevin's teams have built), similar accomplishments for AT&T Wireless, and Apple Computer, as well as leading to launch of a number of startup companies.

Kevin has created business around the world, including having lived and worked in Chile and Mexico.

Chelsea McCullough

Executive Director of Texans for Economic Progress

Chelsea’s work spans the areas of entrepreneurship, social impact, technology and communications. She specializes in engaging talented people to create powerful ideas and meaningful partnerships.

Chelsea serves as the Executive Director of Texans for Economic Progress (TEP), a statewide technology coalition. She is also a founding partner of Digital Union, a consulting company that launches social impact initiatives. Chelsea has participated in the launch of several entrepreneurial companies focused on creating positive impact for Latinos including NewsTaco, MasWired and Vidamerica.


Ryan Joy

Developer Evangelist at Microsoft   |  

Ryan has been developing for web and desktop user experiences using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript frontend technologies for more than 12 years. These days he’s a Developer Evangelist @ Microsoft promoting those same technologies to others. He's also worked with more than a few backend technologies and frameworks. In addition he is active in the local Austin web tech communities both as organizer (Refresh Austin and the Austin Web Design Meetup) and as frequent attendee. He's an avid photographer and a decent cook.

Joel G Goodman

Principal at Bravery Transmedia   |  

Joel is a jack-of-all-trades marketer, designer, and front-end developer at his creative media firm, Bravery Transmedia. He has been designing and developing websites for bands, universities, businesses, professionals, and startups since 2007 and holds a master of arts degree in Media Studies from The New School for Public Engagement.

Travis Swicegood

News Apps & Data Editor at the Texas Tribune   |  

Travis has spent nearly a decade and a half in the technology industry with a focus on the web. Originally from El Paso, he has worked for startups targeting everything from electronic medical records to customer relationship management to social networks. He came to the Tribune after a year and a half of running his own consulting company that focused on helping not-for-profits and political activists use technology to expand their reach.

Jason Woodward

Principal at State & Plain   |  

Jason is a veteran backend Web application developer, data and systems architect. Working professionally with the Web since 1996, he's currently between founding roles at software-intensive ventures. Most recently the technical co-founder of RecoVend and BetaMatch, he was early at, and did his time in Higher Education. He's a graduate of the Betaspring accelerator and a 2x Cornell University computer science graduate, and thinks "full stack" means all the way to the gate level.
